Just a quick note on the barred owl that Becky introduced me to last week, at the Audubon Center. Got a note from Becky today:

BTW, our owl is doing reasonably well. He/she is eating and awaiting an x-ray (don’t know if it is a follow-up or the first one).

I was hoping it would be happy to see me……. NOT! I bundled him up like a burrito as I couldn’t get hold of his feet!

So Barry-the-barred-owl is alive and kicking..and eating, which is better. Keep your fingers crossed.

Update, two weeks later: Unfortunately, Barry-the-barred-owl has died. His/her wing damage was irreparable–no possibility of being able to fly again–and she had other difficult injuries. The poor folk at Audubon had to euthanize her.
